NAMI plans bowling fundraiser Geauga SWCD sets tree sale

The National Alliance on Mental Illness Lake County will hold its firstever Strikes for Awareness Fundraiser.

Participan­ts can enjoy a night of bowling to raise funds and awareness for those whose lives are affected by mental illness. The event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 17 at Scores Fun Center, 65 Normandy Drive in Painesvill­e.

The cost is $20 per bowler or $100 per lane (up to six bowlers). The ticket price includes two hours of unlimited bowling with shoe rental, a game of laser tag, two slices of pizza and fountain drink.

There will be a 50/50 raffle and other chances to win prizes. Tickets must be purchased in advance at www. namilakeco­untyohio.org or by calling the NAMI office at 440-639-1200. All of the funds raised from this event will be used to support NAMI’s work in Lake County, according to a news release.

The Geauga Soil and Water Conservati­on District announced that its 2018 Spring Tree Sale will be held April 27-28.

The sale will offer a streamline­d selection of both bareroot seedlings and 1- to 3-gallon container trees and shrubs. From white pine to yellow birch and redbud to dawn redwood, this year’s selection is suitable to a wide variety of landscapin­g needs, according to a news release.

Rain barrels and compost tumblers also are available for year-round backyard benefits. There are also tree sale gift certificat­es.

Library offering passport services

For those preparing for the upcoming travel season, they can apply for a U.S. passport at Madison Public Library.

U.S. citizens planning internatio­nal travel may apply for their passports Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the library, 6111 Middle Ridge Road.

Volunteers sought for WomenSafe store

Volunteer opportunit­ies are available at the WomenSafe Resale Shoppe, 12601 Chillicoth­e Road in Chester Township.

The shop sells slightly used merchandis­e for the entire family, including furniture and housewares, seasonal items, shoes, jewelry, and decorative items. The shop is open five days a week, and one evening (Thursday).

All proceeds from WomenSafe Resale Shoppe support the mission of the WomenSafe Shelter in Chardon, a safe haven and community resource for domestic violence victims and their families, according to a news release.

Dinner to remember ‘Four Chaplains’

A Four Chaplains Memorial Dinner will be 2 to 6 p.m. Feb. 11 at American Legion Post 7, 29919 Euclid Ave. in Wickliffe.

Doors will open at 2 p.m., with the program beginning at 3, followed by dinner at 4. Cost is $25 prepaid.

Top 25 performs for FAA committee

The Women’s Committee of The Fine Arts Associatio­n will present “Top 25: Sounds of the Cinema” by the Top 25 elite singers from Mentor High School under the direction of Adam Landry.

The event will take place at 11 a.m. Feb. 14 at the Fine Arts Associatio­n, 38660 Mentor Ave. in Willoughby, followed by the luncheon at noon in the lobby.

Reservatio­ns must be made by noon of the Friday before the lecture/luncheon date. Cost is $15 for members, $18 for nonmembers or $10 for the lecture only.
