King named Geauga County magistrate
A former assistant Geauga County prosecutor is now a part-time magistrate.
Abbey King was recently sworn in to her new post by Geauga County Probate/Juvenile Court Judge Timothy J. Grendell.
King previously worked in the prosecutor’s office for more than six years. She worked in criminal, civil and juvenile law, and had the opportunity to prosecute various appeals.
For the past five years, King represented Geauga County Job & Family Services, and handled the child abuse, neglect and dependency cases in Juvenile Court.
King said she is looking forward to continuing to serve the children and families of Geauga County in this new capacity.
She added that the new position will allow her to

collaborate more with all parties to develop creative and strategic treatment plans for sensitive cases,
with the goal always to be reunification of families when safe for the children.
“Helping children and
families is my true passion,” she said.
Grendell said King’s experience as a former social worker will come in handy as a magistrate, helping expedite the adjudication of cases before his court.
“This will allow me, as Probate Judge, more time to address the needs of seniors and the county’s most vulnerable; and as Juvenile Judge, focus on the rehabilitation efforts of youth who come before the Court, which combined will result in improved services for Geauga County seniors and families,” said the judge.
