Wildwood hosting history series

The Wildwood Cultural Center is offering a new Lake County history series.

The Lake County Historical Society will be the instructor and the series for those 13 years of age and older will be held from 6-7 p.m. in the South Wing of Wildwood, 7645 Little Mountain Road in Mentor. Cost is $10 for residents and $13 for nonresiden­ts.

“Eerie and Odd Legends of Lake County” will take place Feb. 21. “19th Century Medicine” will be held March 21. And “Women Spies” will take place April 18.

History program on 1950s Cleveland

History lovers can travel back to Cleveland in the 1950s during a special program at 6:30 p.m. March 5 at Mentor Public Library’s Main Branch — 8215 Mentor Ave. in Mentor.

The speaker will be one of the historians from the Western Reserve Historical Society, and attendees can re-examine the decade when the Indians, Browns and Barons all played in championsh­ips, Marilyn Shepard was murdered, and Marilyn Monroe was married.

Fighting addiction topic of March 8 event

The Eastlake PAL Community Center will be hosting a program to show how the public can learn how to get involved in the “Fight Against Addiction.”

The event, taking place from 7 to 9 p.m. March 8, will feature speakers, informatio­n on local resources, and volunteer opportunit­ies for upcoming events such as “Hope Over Heroin 2018,” according to a news release.

Eastlake PAL is located at 600 E 349th St.

Raffle to benefit Camp Sue Osborn

Camp Sue Osborn, a summer camp for children with special needs in Lake and Geauga counties, will host its annual reverse raffle at 6 p.m. March 10.

The raffle begins at 6 p.m. in The Banquet Center at St. Noel, 35200 Chardon Road in Willoughby Hills. Ticket price includes dinner, open bar and dancing, as well as a main board ticket worth a chance to win $3,000. There also will be door prizes, opportunit­y auction items and sideboards.

The camp serves more than 150 children every year with a two-week day camp and one-week residence camp, as well as an Alumni Camp for adults. Students with a documented disability in any Lake or Geauga county school district can attend the camp.

The cost is over $1,000 per child to attend each camp, but with funds raised from the raffle and donations, the average cost per family is under $250. The organizati­on also offers complete “campership­s” to families that need additional assistance.
