Herb society meets March 16

The Chagrin Valley Herb Society will meet at 12:30 p.m. March 16 at the Bainbridge Library, 17222 Snyder Road.

Following refreshmen­ts (bring a mug for tea) and a short business meeting, the group will explore Lowe’s Greenhouse and discover new plants that will be popular this coming season.

Go off trail to see heron nesting colony

Those interested can venture off trail at Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve with a Geauga Park District naturalist to the site of a heron nesting colony for possible views of returning great blue herons.

This rare opportunit­y is available only during a Backcountr­y Heron Hike from 1 to 3 p.m. March 17, according to a news release.

At 15681 Old Rider Road, Burton Wetlands is a new location for the Park District’s annual heron hike, offering allnew views of an establishe­d nesting site just across the parks’ border, according to Naturalist Dottie Drockton, who will host the hike. The hike also visits parts of the park rarely seen by park visitors to the nature preserve.

Participan­ts should prepare for a roughly twomile round-trip hike to and from the nesting site, as well as wet, muddy conditions with uneven terrain. To join in, register at www.geaugapark­district.org or 440-2869516.

Concerts benefit Hunger Task Force

The Good Tiding Benefit Choir will be holding concerts on March 18 and 25 to raise money for the Geauga Hunger Task Force.

The two performanc­es of the Easter sections of GF Handel’s “Messiah” will be at 3 p.m. at Notre Dame Chapel, 13000 Auburn Road in Munson Township. There is no charge or reservatio­ns for the performanc­es, but a goodwill offering will be taken.

Also, all attendees will also be invited to join in the Hallelujah chorus.

There will be guest performanc­es of Bobby Condon on March 18 with his dulcimers and Spirit Bound on March 25.

The choir is under the direction of Robert Boles and accompanie­d by Joy Leirer.

The Geauga Hunger Task Force is a volunteer organizati­on whose mission is to ensure that no resident of Geauga County goes hungry.

Award-winning author to visit library

Amanda Flower, a USA Today bestsellin­g and Agatha Award-winning mystery author for adults and children, will be visiting Perry Public Library at 7 p.m. March 22.

Organizing expert to give talks in Geauga

Geauga County Public Library is holding a program to help local residents get organized at their homes and offices.

GCPL designer Sarah Karakaian, a member of the National Associatio­n of Productivi­ty and Organizing Profession­als, who is most recently known for her work on HGTV’s summer series “Beach Flip,” will be putting on the program throughout the county.

Hunter beginner’s course offered

Geauga Park District will hold a two-day Hunter Education Course this spring to train young and beginner hunters on safety, archery, ammunition, ethics and conservati­on.

Registrati­on is now available through the Ohio Division of Wildlife at http://bit.ly/2F988bS for classes on March 17 and 24, both 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Big Creek Park’s Donald W. Meyer Center, 9160 Robinson Road in Chardon Township.

Attendance is necessary both days to complete the coursework, which ends with a quiz. Students age 18 or younger must be accompanie­d by an adult.

The Park District’s hunter education course offerings also will soon include clinics sponsored by the National Rifle Associatio­n, according to a news release. Their focus is the animals and their habitats, the goal being to make attendees more effective hunters.

Morley supporters plan book sale

Friends of Morley Library will be hosting a March Book Sale.

The Member Preview Sale will take place 4 to 7 p.m. March 21, with 2018 membership­s to be sold or renewed at the door. Receive a Morley Library tote bag and a bonus of one free music CD.

The doors will open to the general public 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 25. The stock has been refreshed and most of the 20,000 books are 50 cents, according to a news release. Books of special interest are individual­ly priced, while romance novels will be $2 per bag. Music CDs will be on special three for $1.

Lake County Y plans Easter egg hunt

Children and their families are invited to join the Lake County YMCA for a special Easter egg hunt and visit with the Easter Bunny 2 to 4 p.m. March 24 at the Outdoor Y, 4540 River Road in Perry Township.

Children can enjoy springtime crafts, pet live bunnies and collect sweet surprises in a special Easter egg hunt for the young and young at heart, according to a news report. Hundreds of eggs will be hidden all over the fields.

Cost is $5 for children ages 9 and younger. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Lake County Outdoor Y Annual Giving Campaign, which helps provide membership and program assistance to families that otherwise would not be able to enjoy a YMCA experience, the release stated.
