Concord Township names new official
Andy Rose hired as administrator
After a vacancy of nearly 10 weeks, Concord Township has filled its administrator position.
The township’s Board of Trustees took action at its regularly scheduled meeting March 21 to hire Andy Rose.
Rose, a Mentor-on-the-Lake resident and former City Council president in that community, replaces former township Administrator Kathy Mitchell, who held the position for four years.
Mitchell resigned in early January to become the planning administrator for the city of Mentor.
Rose, 53, is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, and holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Tiffin University and a master’s degree in public administration from Kent State University.
Currently, Rose works for the city of Mentor as administrative services manager, a position he’s held for six years.
He begins serving as township administrator April 16 and will be
compensated an annual salary of $85,000.
Trustees Chair Christopher Galloway said the search for an administrator was broad and lengthy.
“We had applicants from all over Ohio and the Midwest — some really great résumés and experience to choose from. In the end, we are pleased that we were able to hire a local, highly qualified individual.
“Now the joke between us and our friends over in Mentor is that Andy is the ‘player to be named later’ in the Kathy Mitchell trade,” Galloway added. “As sad as we were to see Kathy move
on in her career, we are thrilled to add Mr. Rose to the team.”
Rose, who is married with two adult children, serves on the board of Lake County Land Reutilization Corp., referred to as the Lake County Land Bank.
“What stood out for me were Andy’s excellent organizational and leadership skills,” said Trustee Paul
Malchesky. “He really took the time to study Concord Township, our policy initiatives and came to the interview with a clear grasp of the job, the township, and brought suggestions on initiatives and process.”
Trustee Caroline “Connie” Luhta added that Rose has big shoes to fill.
“We’ve had some excellent administrators in the
past,” she said. “I look forward to working with him to move Concord forward in a positive direction.”
Rose said he’s leaving Mentor on very good terms.
“I’m going to miss the people, but I’m also excited for this new opportunity. I want to thank the trustees for placing their confidence in me and I am looking forward to getting started. I
just want to build on the strengths of Concord and the past administration.
“I am convinced the township staff is very committed to this community and I look forward to joining them,” he said. “I am a firm believer in continuous community improvement and running public services in the most efficient manner possible.”
