OSU tops Princeton

Freddy Gerard and Tanner Laczynski each had a goal and an assist to lead Ohio State to a 4-2 hockey win over Princeton in Allentown, Pa., during the first round of the NCAA tournament. The Buckeyes will play in a regional final at 6:30 p.m. March 25 against Denver.

IRVING OUT » The Celtics say point guard Kyrie Irving will miss three to six weeks after surgery on his left knee. Irving had a “minimally invasive” procedure to remove a wire that had been placed in his knee during surgery to repair his broken kneecap from the 2015 NBA finals. The team said Irving’s kneecap is fully healed and structural­ly sound, but the tension wire was irritating his tendon.

THOMAS CLOSES IN » Justin Thomas won two matches to reach the semifinals of the Dell Technologi­es Match Play. Thomas made quick work of Si Woo Kim in the morning, and then trailed for the first time all week against Kyle Stanley just not for long. Thomas won three straight holes to start the back nine, made a 6-foot par putt to stay in control and closed out Stanley, 2-and-1.

CHEN REIGNS » Nathan Chen’s redemption is complete. While all of his top competitor­s fell, the 18-year-old Chen completed six quadruple jumps in the free program to become the first U.S. winner of the men’s world figure skating title since 2009.
