Mentor resident graduates with honors
Joseph Everett of Mentor has graduated Summa Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor of Music, Jazz Composition degree.
He is the son of Meg and David Everett of Mentor and a 2014 graduate of Lake Catholic High School in Mentor.
Euclid resident lauded for theatre talent
Bryce Lewis of Euclid was among eight students who were nationally acknowledged for their talent when a representative from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, Region 3, attended Baldwin Wallace University’s production of Tom Stoppard’s Communist-centered play, “Rock ‘N’ Roll.”
Two students received nominations to participate in the prestigious Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship Competition, and six additional students were presented awards for their behind-the-scenes work on the show. Lewis, a graduate of Hawken School majoring in theatre acting and directing, received a Certificate of Merit for Excellence in Dramaturgy.
KCACTF is a national theatre initiative involving over 20,000 students from colleges and universities across the country. The Region 3 festival takes place in Indianapolis and provides opportunities for professional and artistic growth to aspiring actors, directors and technicians in the Great Lakes region.
“Rock ‘N’ Roll” is one of an extensive number of performance experiences providing real-world opportunities for students at Baldwin Wallace University. Productions include plays, musicals, operas, music concerts and dance concerts. Details at bw.edu/events.
Perry resident named all-academic
Nicholas Sbrocco of Perry and a Perry High School graduate is one of six Baldwin Wallace University wrestling studentathletes to be named to the Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference team.
In order to be selected to the Academic All-OAC team, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, maintain varsity status and have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
Sbrocco, who garners his first Academic All-OAC accolade, is a finance major who carries a 3.93 GPA. A Dean’s List student, Sbrocco earned 10 wins this season and has a career record of 16-19.
Highland Hts. resident earns dean’s list
Zachary M. Pray, of Highland Heights was named to Lewis University’s Dean’s List for the 2017 Fall Semester. Pray is studying Trasport Distribution Logistics BS at Lewis University.
More than 1,400 students were honored on the Lewis University Dean’s List for the 2017 Fall Semester.
To be eligible for this honor, students must have completed a minimum of 12 semester hours of credit with a grade point average of 3.5 out of a possible 4.0 and with no “D” or “F” grades.
Perry resident named to dean’s list
Brooke Sutyak of Perry, was one of more than 1,900 students from Saginaw Valley State University whose determination and commitment to academic achievement earned them a spot on the fall 2017 semester Deans’ List.
To be eligible for the Deans’ List, a student must take at least 12 credit hours and carry a semester GPA of 3.4 or better.
Chester =. resident earns Wheaton honors
Wheaton College student McKenzie Pile of Chester Township was named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2017 semester.
To earn Dean’s List honors at Wheaton, an undergraduate student must carry 12 or more credit hours and achieve a 3.5 grade point average or higher on the 4.0 scale.
Area students travel aboard
Local students were among the participants in John Carroll University’s Campus Ministry Immersion Experience program, which included trips to El Salvador, Jamaica, and Nicaragua in January. Immersion experiences challenge students to engage the realities of the world while reflecting on the values of human dignity and servant leadership. Students are exposed to issues of poverty and injustice while experiencing unique cultures and environments. They engage in direct service activities, participate in experiential learning, and make educational site visits - while living in the very communities that they are serving.

Area students earn Clemson honors
Local students have been named to the Dean’s List at Clemson University for the fall 2017 semester. They include: • Annmarie E. Messing of Aurora, whose major is General Engineering
• Isabella Catherine Dicillo of Chardon, whose major is Bioengineering
• Amanda F. Leuty of Mentor, whose major is Biological Sciences
To be named to the Dean’s List, a student achieved a grade-point average between 3.50 and 3.99 on a 4.0 scale.
Local students have been named to the President’s List at Clemson University for the fall 2017 semester. They are: • Alexandra R. Mehallis of Aurora, whose major is Pre-Business
• Thomas J. Riedy of Aurora, whose major is Political Science

To be named to the President’s List, a student must achieve a 4.0 (all As) grade-point average.
Chester Twp. resident completes internship
Miranda Young of Chester Township was one of nine University of Mount Union sport business students who interned at the 23rd annual National Sports Forum.
The National Sports Forum is one of the largest sport business conferences in the United States. This year’s conference took place Feb.11-13 at The Star — the Dallas Cowboys Training Facility and Executive Office — in Frisco, Texas.
Those who attended the conference were professionals from teams, properties, agencies, brands and leagues, including the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, MLS, NASCAR, UEFA, the Minor Leagues, NCAA and more.
Professionals spoke about sponsorships, marketing and fan engagement, ticket sales and business development. The Mount Union student interns worked in registration, helped with conference logistics and made sure that the event ran smoothly.
The sport business program at the University of Mount Union prepares students for careers in the sports industry by providing them with opportunities to attend conference, have internships, present to sport business professionals and gain other hands-on learning experiences.
Chardon resident performs in play
Laura Abraham of Chardon recently participated in the University of Findlay’s musical theatre production of “Funny Girl,” a classic that tells the fascinating and bittersweet story of Fanny Brice and her rise from Brooklyn music hall singer to Broadway star. UF students participated as cast members and/or as members of the production crew.
Abraham performed the role of Vera, a Ziegfeld bride dancer and a Rattat-tat-tat dancer.
Local students rock the stage
Students from the area were part of the cast and crew from Baldwin Wallace University with their production of Tom Stoppard’s Czech-centered “Rock ‘N’ Roll.” The following local students lent their talents to the production: • Bryce Lewis of Euclid, a graduate of Hawken School majoring in theatre acting and directing, served as dramaturg assistant.
• Rose Musto of Cleveland, a graduate of Hawken School majoring in theatre design and technical studies, served as scenic designer.
• Peter Ribar of Middlefield, a graduate of Cardinal High School majoring in acting, played the part of Ferdinand.
Madison resident earns honor
Graceland University Indoor Track and Field student-athlete Zachary Kuntz of Madison, has been named Honorable Mention All-Conference by the Heart of America Athletic Conference for the High Jump..
