With more than 26,000 Lake County residents going hungry, businesses like Moving Ahead Services are hoping to inspire members of their community to take action.

Moving Ahead Services has partnered with Move for Hunger to collect donations at their Willoughby location, 35160 Topps Industrial Parkway, suite 6, to assist United Way of Lake County in their Feed Lake County food drive.

They are asking community members to bring nonperishable food items such as peanut butter, tuna fish, canned fruits/vegetables, pasta, rice, beans and cereal to their office. Employees will box up the donated items and deliver them to United Way.

Although the company collects donations all year long, all donations collected from March 5 to April 30 go directly to the Feed Lake County Food Drive

Additionally, they collect donations from their clients.

According to Adam Gurwell, operations manager for Moving Ahead Services, when many people move, especially those who move interstate or across the country, they purge and throw out a lot of food.

Employees from Moving Ahead Services always bring a box with a Move for Hunger flyer in it when they arrive at a customer’s house to do the paperwork for the move.

“We explain it to them and tell them that they don’t have to donate but if they do it’s definitely appreciated

and it goes to local food banks,” Gurwell said. “Typically eight of 10 times people donate. We pack it up for them or they can put it in the box as we are packing up the rest of the house.”

Once the donated food is packed up it’s taken back to

the office of Moving Ahead Services where it is weighed and than donated to The United Way of Lake County.

“We collect and donate food all year round but we try to push it a little more when they do the Feed Lake County Food Drive,” Gurwell said.

The company also participates in Dine to Donate and Celebrity Server, and it sponsors local events.

The company also donates its moving boxes to the Feed Lake County for food sorting and packaging.

Gurwell notes that the donations seem a bit slow this year but he is hopeful as the temperature rises so will the donations.

“It’s for a good cause. I know there is a lot of hunger all around us and a lot of times its hard to really identify the people that are
