Foster families needed for kittens

Lake Humane also seeking donations, supplies

- Staff report

Spring is here and that means kitten season for Lake Humane Society.

From now until fall, the humane society will be seeing dozens of kittens dropped off at the shelter weekly, according to a news release. Many of the kittens will be too young to be adopted, but they are eligible to go to temporary foster homes

So the shelter is seeking foster families for young kittens, or moms and litters, until they are ready to be adopted.

Many litters lose their mothers in the wild, leaving orphaned kittens that need to be nurtured, bottle fed, litter trained and socialized, the release stated.

Foster families that can care for kittens that need to be fed every three to four hours are especially needed. Training is available to all foster families through the humane society’s foster program.

The organization also is seeking donations to care for all of these cats’ needs, and to support the foster program. The shelter provides foster families with all of the supplies they will need while fostering an animal.

Donations being sought include:

• Kmr Powder for kittens and cats, 12-ounce

• Pet-Ag Nursing Kit, 2-ounce bottle

• Vicks SpeedRead Digital Thermometer

• Digital Pets and

Kitchen Scale for newborn kittens

• Snuggle Safe Pet Bed Microwave Heating Pad

• Smart Pet Love Snuggle Puppy behavioral aid toy

• Feline Fresh Natural Pine Cat Litter

• Canned cat/kitten food (pate)

• Gift cards to local pet stores

• Food storage containers with lids (cereal container size)
