New manager for Chardon library
Geauga County Public Library has announced that Judy Lasco has been promoted to the position of manager at the Chardon Branch.
In her new position, Lasco will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the building and its 30 employees, according to a news release. Maintaining and growing high-quality programming remains a priority, along with developing a diverse and relevant collection of materials.
Lasco has a degree in economics from Montana State University and accounting experience at General Electric. In 2005, she discovered an affinity for libraries and public service while working at GCPL’s Middlefield Branch as a youth services assistant, the release stated. She went on to earn a master’s degree in library science from Kent State University and became head of youth services at the Chardon Branch in 2011.
Frangos appointed to Tri-C Board
Ann Frangos has been appointed to the Cuyahoga Community College Board of Trustees for a term ending Oct. 12, 2022.
Frangos was appointed to Tri-C’s Board of Trustees by Ohio Gov. John Kasich and will be sworn in during a special board meeting April 26, according to a news release. She replaces Michael Canty.
Frangos retired from AT&T in 2013 as an assistant vice president responsible for accounts receivable management for commercial accounts worldwide, the release stated. She oversaw seven call centers across the United States and international centers in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and India.
She also served as director of human resources with AT&T, where she directed Equal Employment Opportunity and affirmative action programs, the release stated.
Overall, Frangos spent more than 36 years in the telecommunications industry. Prior to entering the corporate world, Frangos taught high school math.
The Westlake resident is also a past board member of In Counsel with Women, a Northeast Ohio network of female executives.
Chardon to hold leaf collection
The city of Chardon announced it will conduct a spring leaf collection program for residents starting April 9, weather permitting.
Since only one trip will be made throughout the community, leaves must be placed to the curb prior to that date to ensure collection, according to a news release.
Poor Man’s Raffle coming April 21
A Poor Man’s Raffle sponsored by the L.C.A.D/D Inc. of Deepwood Center will be 6 p.m. April 21 at the Normandy Party Center, 30310 Palisades Parkway in Wickliffe.
The evening will include an open bar, pizza appetizers, family-style dinner with two entrées, potatoes, vegetable, salad and dessert. There will be music and dancing with DJ Steve Seidel, sideboards, a 50/50 raffle, auctions and door prizes.
Donation is $40 per person.
All proceeds from the event will directly benefit individuals served by the Lake County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

WRJSL planning open house
The Western Reserve Junior Service League will host the annual Prospective Member Open House from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 18 at the Lake County History Center, 415 Riverside Drive in Painesville Township.
The open house is an opportunity to meet current members, enjoy light snacks and learn how WRJSL lends a helping hand to nonprofit organizations in Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties through their volunteerism and community grant program, according to a news release.

Geauga Park District plans bird walks
Want to get in on the enjoyment, excitement, fascination and joyful outdoor recreation that birdwatching has to offer? It’s now among one of the most popular pastimes in America, and Geauga Park District announced that its annual Spring Bird Walk Series returns for six walks throughout April and May.
They will take place 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on April 15 at Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve; April 22 at Frohring Meadows; April 29 at The Rookery; May 6 at Eldon Russell Park; May 13 at Big Creek Park; and May 20 at Swine Creek Reservation.
Located where there is the best bet for birds at each particular stage in migration, these walks connect experienced bird watchers with novices of all ages for bird observation, identification and interpretation, according to a news release.
Attendees are asked to dress for the weather and bring a bird guide and binoculars if possible. Registration is not required for any of the above mentioned events.
