Emmy Award-winning composer and electric violinist Mark Wood and the Mark Wood Experience will take the stage June 16 at Mentor Civic Amphitheater.

Along with the Experience, Wood is known for being an original member of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and is founder of Electrify Your Strings, a rock ‘n’ roll workshop for schools that aims to boost student self-esteem and motivation and help raise money for music education.

Wood also has collaborated and/or shared the stage with the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Celine Dion, Kanye West, Billy Joel, Paul McCartney, Steven Tyler and Roger Daltry.

As part of this event, Wood and his band of five will be joined by members of Mentor High School Orchestra.

The concert, at 7 p.m., is being hosted by the Lake County Visitors Bureau and the city of Mentor.

The event is a direct outcome of an objective set forth in October during the Visitors Bureau’s annual meeting, which featured a performance by Wood and the high school orchestra.

The objective is to raise awareness of Lake County’s fine arts community while creating a unique experience for the county, said bureau Executive Director Scott Dockus.

“In October, our annual meeting became electrified when Mark and the Mentor High School Orchestra performed,” Dockus said. “This was a first for Lake County and the first for our annual meeting.

“Having Mark return with his band and performing with the Mentor Orchestra will set the stage for many such events.”

The amphitheater is located at 8600 Munson Road. Organizers say this is a family-friendly concert with free admission and parking, food trucks, and beer and wine sales. Tickets are not required.

“We’re thrilled that Scott Dockus and the Lake County Visitors Bureau were able to put this together,” Mentor Community Relations Administrator Ante Logarusic said. “Mark Wood’s work as part of TSO and beyond has exposed millions of people to neoclassical music. Having the Mentor High students perform with a musical legend is something that everyone is going to remember for a long time.”
