- Staff and wire

The Browns’ preseason opponents were announced on April 11. They are:

• Aug. 9-13: at New York Giants (WEWS-TV 5)

• Aug. 16-20: Bills (WEWS)

• Aug. 23, 8 p.m.: Eagles (WJW-TV 8)

• Aug. 30-Sept. 1: at Lions (WEWS)

Specific dates for the Giants, Bills and Lions games will be announced later.

The games broadcast on WEWS will be called by long time broadcaster Jay Crawford and former Browns quarterback Tim Couch.

In a news release, Crawford said he couldn’t wait to call games for the Browns.

“For me to get an opportunity to call the team that I grew up watching, and even through my adult life have followed and loved, is really a ‘pinch me’ moment,” Crawford said. “I couldn’t be more excited.”

Crawford, a Bowling Green State graduate, saw Couch play at Kentucky while working at a TV station there.

“Of all the athletes I covered, Tim Couch was one of the best,” Crawford said.

Couch was the overall No. 1 pick in the 1999 draft and has recently been an analyst on SEC regional broadcasts.

“I’m super excited about it,” Couch said. “I haven’t been back in Cleveland since I left there. It’s going to be nice to get back up there and be around the organization again. The fans are tremendous. They’re some of the best fans in pro football.”

The Browns were 4-0 in the preseason last year, and 0-16 in the regular season.
