The Euclid School Board this week officially hired Marvin B. Jones II as the district’s new superintendent.

Jones will begin his contract July 1 in the Euclid School District, which serves about 5,300 students.

Last month, Superintendent Charles Smialek notified the board that he was leaving the district at the end of the academic year to accept the superintendent position at Parma City Schools. The board immediately began an extensive search for a new superintendent.

According to a Euclid Schools news release, the district held a focus group and conducted an online survey to identify community expectations for the new leader, with nearly 500 survey and focus group participants.

A total of 18 candidates applied. Ultimately, two finalists interviewed and met with staff, local community leaders and with the Euclid School Board, which deliberated and voted in a public board meeting.

“Mr. Jones comes to us with a dynamic skill set that we are sure will have an impact on our district’s culture and achievement,” said Board President Donna Sudar. “The entire board is excited to work with Marvin to move Euclid Schools forward.”

Jones began his career as

an educator in 2001 teaching middle school science, and has since served in numerous administrative capacities, including curriculum supervisor, dean of students, athletic director, middle school principal and exploratory principal.

Jones is currently the director of secondary education, alternative education and hearing officer for the Springfield City School District in Clark County.

The district serves about 8,000 students.

Jones earned his undergraduate degree from Tennessee State University, and his master’s from Marygrove College in Detroit. He will receive his doctorate from the University

of Dayton next month.

Married, with four children, Jones completed his principal licensure program at Wright State University and his superintendent licensure program at the University of Dayton.

“I am elated to have been chosen to serve the Euclid City School District and ultimately the community at large,” Jones said.

“There is so much passion and expertise that currently resides within the community and school district.

“There is no doubt in my mind that we, together, are going to do some amazing things for our students and families as we relentlessly pursue excellence.”
