No injuries reported in apartment fire
The fire department received reports of smoke inside of the two-story building on April 18.
No injuries were reported in a Euclid apartment fire April 18.
According to the Euclid Fire Department, crews responded to the fire at 19590 Euclid Ave. around 10:32 p.m.
The department had received reports of smoke inside of the two-story building.
The department said it received multiple calls of worsening conditions and a woman yelling about a baby inside.
All 16 of the department’s on-duty firefighters responded, along with mutual aid from Wickliffe, Willowick, South Euclid and Richmond Heights fire departments. All units in the building were searched, with no one located inside. All residents evacuated the building prior to the firefighters’ arrival.
It took crews about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control, according to a news release from Euclid Platoon Chief Jay Womack.
The displaced resident is being assisted by the Red Cross. Damage estimates are $50,000 to the building and contents.
Womack said the fire was caused by unattended cooking.
“We cannot emphasize enough to never leave food cooking unattended on a stovetop,” Womack stated in the release. “A cost-effective way to protect your property from grease fires can be found at www. stovetopfirestop.com/ or www.auto-out.com/.”
