An ice cream eating contest and dance-off are a few of the activities that will be featured at the first Western Lake County Kids Fair.

The event from 1 to 4 p.m. on April 29 at the Patrician Party Center, 33150 Lakeland Blvd. in Eastlake, was planned to inform parents about a wide variety of kids programming available throughout Lake County for the summer.

“The fair is an event to bring organizations that offer summer camps (day camps, overnight, sporting, educational, Vacation Bible School) to one location so families can talk to camp representatives, explore options and plan their children’s summer activities in one convenient location,” said event organizer Michael Zuren, who is also an Eastlake city councilman.

At the fair, children play games, enter contests and watch demonstrations while their parents plan their summer activities.

Contests at the event include a Nintendo Switch Just Dance competition for children only, with the first-place winner receiving a Nintendo Switch provided by Walmart; a children’s costume contest; and an ice cream eating contest divided by age group and sponsored by CP Coolers. After the kids’ ice cream eating contest, Eastlake and Willowick Mayors Dennis Morley and Rich Regovich will battle it out in a mayor’s ice cream eating contest, with winner receiving bragging rights.

There is a $3 entry fee for the Just Dance and the ice cream eating contest.

Demonstrations for kids include: Bubbleologist Dr. URawesome at 1:30 p.m., a youth karate demonstration by Karate Institute of Mentor at 2:30 p.m., bubble painting/masking pottery by Busy Bees Pottery & Art Studio at 3 p.m. and youth gymnastics at 3:30 p.m.

The event includes a magician, balloon artist, Heroes United (superheroes), a pooch smooth booth by Amy’s Adoptables, a fire truck, and children’s games and activities provided by the Eastlake Branch of Willoughby-Eastlake Library.

There will also be a Chinese auction with all proceeds going to Lake County Fight Against Addiction Hope over Heroin.

Vendors and sponsors are still accepted for the event. Contact Michael Zuren at 440-251-5381 or Eastlake’s Economic Community Development Committee member Angela Schmidt at 440-571-2356.
