MENTOR EIGHTH-GRADERS INVITED TO CAVALIERS WATCH PARTY AT THE QUICKEN LOANS ARENA

-

Mentor Public Schools sent the following letter on May 2 to parents and guardians of their eighth-grade students: “We have an exciting development to share with our eighth-grade students this afternoon,” Interim Superintendent William Porter wrote. The Cleveland Cavaliers reached out to us today with an extremely generous offer to provide our students with a fun experience. They have invited us to attend (Thursday night’s) Q Arena Watch Party for the Cavs versus Toronto in Round 2 of the playoffs! “The Cavs are providing transportation, T-shirts, rally towels, entertainment and a $15 food voucher for every eighth-grade student and our staff chaperones in Mentor Schools. (This includes students who were not planning on attending the canceled trip to Washington.) We are so grateful to the Cleveland Cavaliers for providing this opportunity for our students, after they received such disappointing news yesterday about the Washington, D.C., trip.” “Here are the details you need to know for (Thursday): • You must turn in the attached permission form for your child (Thursday) — students must be in attendance at school to attend the Watch Party. • Buses will leave the front of Mentor High School (6477 Center St.) at 4:30 p.m . ... and will return to Mentor High School after the game is over (estimated arrival 9:30 p.m.). • You will be responsible for transporting your child to and from Mentor High School. Please make arrangements for a pickup place for your child. • Staff chaperones will be in attendance from each school. • Each school will be seated in its own section in the Q Arena. “I can assure you we are still working to arrange additional events that will be memorable for our 8th grade students,” Porter said. “We will have more information to communicate with you in the next few days about the status of the entire situation.”
