Ehrbar and Clark join classmates Quinn Orloff and Danny Murphy as Hawken seniors signed to play college baseball. Orloff will play at Drew University, and Murphy is headed to Toledo.
Prior to Gilmour’s home opener against rival University on May 3, the Lancers will commemorate the newly renovated Figgie Field with a ribbon-cutting and rededication ceremony.
The field pays homage to Harry E. Figgie Sr. and Harry E. Figgie Jr. Figgie Sr.’s grandson, Matthew Figgie, is a 1984 graduate of Gilmour who set a national record with 170 consecutive successful stolen base attempts. Figgie went on to play baseball and football at Virginia.
Figgie Field cost about $1 million and is the first phase in the development of Gilmour’s baseball facility. The project will be completed with the construction of Sharnsky Stadium, named for longtime coach Ray Sharnsky. Figgie played for Sharnsky, who coached Gilmour’s baseball program for 31 seasons.
Figgie, CEO of Figgie Capital and chairman of Clark Reliance and The Figgie Foundation, and Gilmour Head of School Kathy Kenny will deliver remarks during the ceremony that begins at 2:30 p.m.
