Ex-Perry Elementary employee granted early release

- Staff report

A former Perry Elementary School library media associate who was sentenced to four years in prison for embezzling more than $200,000 from her former employer was granted early release May 10.

Kelly Zampini-Solarek, 52, of Madison Township, was convicted in 2016 of embezzling $204,000 from the Thomas A. Page Co. while employed as a bookkeeper there.

After a nonjury trial before Lake County Common Pleas Judge Eugene A. Lucci, Zampini-Solarek was found guilty of six felonies — aggravated theft, misuse of credit cards and four counts of tampering with records. She had been at the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville since her January 2017 sentencing.

She stole from the Madison Township plumbing company between December 2010 and January 2016.

She was hired at the district in April 2007.

Lucci previously ordered her to make full restitution to Mark Page, the company owner.

In granting her early release, Lucci put her on five years community control. If she fails to pay the balance of the restitution making monthly payments for five years, he can impose the balance of her original sentence.

Her sentence was set to expire on Jan. 3, 2021.

Zampini-Solarek appeared at the judicial release hearing with her trial lawyer, James Loiacono. The victim was on board with the revised sentence.
