Left-hander Justin Wilson (3-0, 1.73 ERA) will take the mound against the Wildcats. ... The winner advances to a D-III Lakewood District final May 17 against the winner of Elyria Catholic and Lutheran West.

Kirtland needed to replace a handful of contributo­rs from last year’s district runner-up team, but arrives at the district level playing well. The Hornets are 12-11, and advanced to a district semifinal with a run-rule win against Beachwood. ... The Hornets’ strong offense is paced by leadoff man Joey Torok and No. 3 hitter Mike Zeuli headed into the matchup with Wellington. Zeuli has been on fire lately, batting over .600 in recent weeks, and leads the team with a .486 average and 31 RBI. Torok, hitting .469, is an instant spark, pairing a .570 on-base percentage with 38 stolen bases to create scoring chances for Kirtland’s offense. ... Lefthander Tyler McCrory leads the Hornets with 50 strikeouts in 44 1⁄3 innings. He’s 3-3 with a 3.32 ERA this season and should draw the starting assignment May 16. ... The Dukes enter their district semifinal 15-9 after an upset victory against No. 3 Clearview in their sectional final. Everett Kropf’s .409 average leads the offense while Ben Bliss owns a 4-2 record and a 2.75 ERA off the mound.
