Hue Jackson taking his Lake Erie plunge June 1
The time for Browns head coach Hue Jackson to jump into Lake Erie has reached the two-minute warning.
Jackson will take the plunge on June 1 at a place and time the Browns are keeping secret. When he does, he will fulfill a vow he never thought he would have to keep.
A day after the Browns finished 1-15 in 2016, Jackson, in the season wrap-up news conference said: “We are not going 1-15 (again). No or I’ll be swimming in the lake over there somewhere.”
Instead of going 1-15, the Browns finished 0-16. Jackson did not use the different records as a loophole. Instead, he is using the event to raise money for his foundation to combat human trafficking. He is donating $100 for every Browns employee who takes the jump with him.
“It’s called a dip and get out,” Jackson said after spring practice on May 30 in Berea. “Get in, get out and move on with your life. I’m excited about our organization, (team owners) Dee and Jimmy (Haslam) and being a part of everything that we’re trying to accomplish here from top to bottom. The people in the organization have been outstanding.
“I’ve learned to shut my mouth a little bit more – don’t say something that you might end up having to do. We will get it behind us. I think it’s going to be something special and for a great cause, as well. Like I said, it is going to be a cleansing of our organization, too.”
The 100 taking the plunge doesn’t include the coaching staff. Jackson said he will talk to players on May 31 to get them to join him in the quick dip.
