Williams advances in French Open
Serena Williams recalibrated her shots and erased a deficit of a set and a break to beat 17thseeded Ashleigh Barty of Australia, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, in the French Open in a match that ended shortly before dusk.
“I lost the first set, and I thought, ‘I’ve got to try harder. I’ve got to just try harder,’ Williams told the crowd afterward. “And Serena came out.” Well put. Williams had all sorts of trouble in the opening set, compiling 12 unforced errors. By the time the second set was merely one game old, she had been broken twice in the match, each time at love, a rather surprising development for the owner of one of her sport’s most dangerous serves.

DELWARE TO TAKE BETS » Delaware will begin fullscale sports betting next week, wasting no time after a U.S. Supreme Court ruling cleared the way for states to implement wagering schemes.
Full-scale sports betting will begin at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Delaware’s three casinos, officials said Thursday. The offerings will include single-game and championship wagering on professional baseball, football, hockey, basketball, soccer, golf and auto racing.
That means Delawareans will be able to make legal wagers on the NBA Finals.
“Obviously the key is going to be the football season because the bulk of betting in America is on football,” state Finance Secretary Rick Geisenberger said.
