Madison Twp. police identify human remains

Police in Madison Township have tentatively identified the human remains found there June 4, according to a June 7 news release from Madison Township Police Department.

Police confirmed that the remains initially brought to their attention about 2:50 p.m. June 4 by a property owner on Bennett Road were human, the department’s June 5 release reads, adding that the caller believed the family dog brought the evidence onto the property.

“Officers were able to confirm that the remains were

human,” the June 5 news release states. “Search and rescue dogs were called to the scene as was the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Investigators searched until dark then resumed the search on Tuesday morning. On Tuesday, searchers found the partially decomposed remains of a human body in a wooded area between Bennett and Dock roads. The Lake County Crime Lab responded to assist in processing the scene.”

Evidence found at the

scene enabled investigators to identify the body.

The remains belong to an adult male, police report. His name will not be released until identification has been confirmed through DNA analysis.

There appears to be no evidence of foul play. Officials confirm there is no evidence of any threat to the community, Madison Township police report.

“The Madison Township Police Department wishes to again advise that there are no indications of foul play,” the department’s June 7 release reads. “This individual’s unfortunate death does not appear to be criminal in nature.”
