SNPJ Farm welcomes internet polka hosts Library hosting shipwreck hunters

The public can meet their favorite internet polka hosts on July 1 as “24-7 Polka Heaven” takes its show on the road to SNPJ Farm in Kirtland.

It will be a dance party with Ray Zalokar and the Casuals, plus on-air personalit­ies, such as Tony Petkovsek, Joe Valencic, Denny Bucar, Kathy Debevits, and more, according to a news release.

The polka pavilion opens at 1 p.m. with sandwiches, dinners and refreshmen­ts, followed by four hours of polka, waltz and pop music for dancing from 3 to 7 p.m. Attendees can stop by the 24-7 Polka Heaven table and chat.

Zalokar started the internet’s first 24-hour polka music site with Ray Somich of WINT-FM in 2002.

Admission $8 while those 18 and under get in for free. Choose from smoked Slovenian sausage or savory roast beef dinners. There also will be homemade donuts, sandwiches and a home-fried potato bar with toppings.

Mike and Georgann Wachter — local shipwreck hunters and authors — will talk about the Lake Erie wrecks they have explored at 6:30 p.m., July 9, at Mentor Public Library’s Main Branch, 8215 Mentor Ave. in Mentor.

The Wachters have spent the last 40 years investigat­ing sunken ships, specializi­ng in wrecks that have occurred in Lake Erie, according to a news release.

The husband-and-wife team have written five books and several articles on the more than 2,000 sunken ships in Lake Erie. They will discuss some of the biggest, most horrifying and most interestin­g wrecks during their talk at the library, the release stated.

In addition to sharing stories of these sunken ships, the Wachters will also bring several artifacts from their dives, including some gun parts, a handmade shoe from a famous wreck, a bell, deadeye, brass lock and bottle.
