Perry Township is trying to make it an entertaining summer for area residents with a movie night and concert series.

The township will hold its firstever “Movie Night Under the Stars” on July 17 at Perry Township Park, 2815 Perry Park Road.

“I think it’s a great idea,” Trustee Rick Amos said. “I hope we get some nice weather. It will be a fun night.”

This event features family fun starting at 6:30 p.m. and a showing of the movie “Moana” at 8:30. Spectators should bring their own lawn chairs and blankets. “Movie

Night Under the Stars” is weather-dependent. No rain

date is scheduled.

Activities prior to the movie will include an inflatable slide and giant Jenga and Connect 4 games, said township Administrator Karen Sundy.

Free popcorn and icee/ freezer pop will be offered. Visitors also can buy a “Movie Pack” consisting hot dog, chips and a drink for $3. Additional concessions will be available for

purchase.

The township is paying for the movie night with a $1,500 grant from the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council, which is listed as an event co-sponsor.

Perry Township received the grant through NOPEC’s Community Events Sponsorship Program, said NOPEC Marketing Director David Jankowski.

NOPEC is a provider of

energy aggregation programs for communities throughout Ohio. The organization uses the principle of buying in bulk to get lower rates on electricity and natural gas for its group of members than those members could receive individually.

The Community Events Sponsorship Program invites NOPEC member communities to apply for grants

to hold events that are free and open to the public, Jankowski said.

These grants are awarded annually, with amounts based on the number of enrolled NOPEC accounts in a member community.

About a week before the movie event, Perry Township will launch its 2018 Summer Concert Series, also at the Township Park. The series is made possible by a variety of community sponsors.

All concerts are 7-9 p.m. on Wednesdays.
