Troopers look into I-90 rollover crash

-

Troopers from the Chardon Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol are investigating a one-vehicle, injury rollover crash that happened June 27 on Interstate 90 in Leroy Township.

According to a 9:36 p.m. news release sent out June 27, the crash happened about 5 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-90, near milepost 206.8.

A 1999 Western Star semi-truck, driven by Roy Teter, 65, of Elyria, was traveling westbound at mile post 206.8, when he lost control of his vehicle, overturned and traveled off the right side of the road, the release stated.

The semi-truck was hauling large steel poles that spilled on the interstate, the release said.

The wreck forced officials to shut down I-90 as crews cleared the wreckage. The Ohio Department of Transportation sent out a news release about 5:45 p.m. indicating one lane had been reopened.

Teter was taken from the scene by a Leroy Township Fire/Rescue squad to TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Township, OHP reports. From there, he was flown by medical helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland with injuries that were not considered incapacitating, officials report.

Ohio Highway Patrol investigators reported they are uncertain whether Teter was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and that neither alcohol nor drug use appear to be factors in the wreck.

“Unsafe speed is a contributing circumstance to the crash,” the OHP release stated.
