Addiction recovery focus of new facility

A new residential addiction treatment center in Chardon Township is opening its doors to visitors who are interested in learning more about the facility and what it has to offer.

Prosperity Haven, located at 9600 Old State Road (Ohio Route 608), began accepting clients in February after receiving the go-ahead from state officials, owner and executive director Eric Vandervert said, adding that Prosperity Haven is in the process now of certifying with the state to begin accepting Medicaid and Medicare.

Meanwhile, the facility is planning an open house, which is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., July 11, and aimed at offering interested parties the opportunity to

explore Prosperity Haven, learn about its programs and treatment options and generally introduce itself to the community.

Vandervert said although the facility does offer outpatient services, its “meat and potatoes” is its seven-bed residential program which offers a high degree of attention to clients due to the nearly oneto-one resident/staff ratio.

“Prosperity Haven is unique because of the client capacity limit and staff ratio,” Vandervert said. “We are a seven-bed facility and have a six-member staff, giving us the ability to deliver much more direct, individualized care. Clients have been amazed at the amount of individual direct care they have received while staying at Prosperity Haven, stating that they have never received that at any other facility and that helped them better deal with some of their underlying issues leading to their addiction.”

Another of the facility’s features Vandervert says is key to its success is the fact that it’s a men’s-only recovery center, a feature he affirms allows it to provide clients with a deeper recovery experience.

“By dealing specifically with men in a home-type setting, clients are able to open up more easily and work on their individual issues in treatment,” he said, adding that it does have the ability to address other populations through working with other facilities. “We have relationships with many other treatment centers that can accommodate any client that does not meet the criteria for Prosperity Haven, i.e. female, youth, or couples.”

He summed up a key piece of Prosperity Haven’s philosophy as follows: “Our goal at Prosperity Haven is simple, we want to see men in active recovery so they may start to rebuild their lives and become productive again, repair damaged relationships, and feel valued.”

He added that it is open to “qualified clients from anywhere in the United States.”

At this point, he said, the Geauga County facility is the only Prosperity Haven location. But he is looking to expand throughout Ohio — with another location in the Columbus area in 2019 and a third around Cincinnati sometime in 2020.

Vandervert said he chose this particular spot in Geauga County for the facility due to its seclusion, along with the fact that it’s not too remote, both of which compliment its mission.

“The main reason that I selected this property is that it is isolated, yet close to a metropolitan area,” he said. “The property is very secluded and absolutely beautiful. Men can come here without the distractions and road blocks that can slow or hamper their recovery. At Prosperity Haven the focus is always on recovery.”

According to its Psychology Today review page, Prosperity Haven‘s specialties are addiction, drug abuse and alcohol abuse treatment and its staff deal with issues including anxiety, chronic relapse, coping skills, depression and life coaching.

He said his goals for the facility revolve around teaching its clients to be responsible, productive members of society.

“My hope for Prosperity Haven is to remain open and actively help any man that is ready and open for recovery from addiction,” he said. “There is no timeline as long as there are people out there that are looking for help, Our successes and rewards come every day when we see people overcoming the suffering of addiction because we were there to help them find sobriety.

He added that: “Residential treatment can be anywhere from 30 days up to 90 days. It will depend on the individual’s progression through their treatment plan and ongoing assessments. There is no rotation for treatment, we will receive clients at different levels of care below detox and place them appropriately into a program.”

Among those expected to be in attendance at the open house are Sen. John Eklund, R-Munson Township, and a former client who will be available to “discuss his time and the care he received at Prosperity Haven and how that has made a difference in his and his family’s lives,” Vandervert said.

Men can come here without the distractions and road blocks that can slow or hamper their recovery.
