Painesville team reigns in national tournament
Team Evolution United, a Painesville-based eighthgrade basketball team, recently won a U.S. Amateur national basketball tournament held in Gainesville, Fla.
The team won four games, including avenging an opening 78-71 loss to the Reese Rockets in the tournament final, 63-54.
Roderick Coffee III was named tournament MVP, averaging 28.4 points a game.
Other members of Team Evolution United are Matthew Fialko, Keyshawn Calhoun, Fernando Evans, Javon Isaacs, Rose Guins and Jeriah Norris. The head coach is Adam Johnson, with assistants Roderick Coffee II and Jeff Isaacs.
Team Evolution United will also host its first football skills camp July 28 at Painesville Recreation Park, with registration starting at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $15.
The camp will be instructed by Johnson, a former Division II defensive lineman, Vaughn Young, Javarian Smith, Desmond Stanley and volunteers from Kent State, Notre Dame College and Lake Erie College.

Herb Eddy of Madison aced the 140-yard sixth hole at Erie Shores Golf Course using a 6-iron.
