Veterans honored by DeJohn Funeral Homes
DeJohn Funeral Homes & Crematory held its annual Flag Retirement & Remembrance Ceremony on Saturday, June 23 at the DeJohn Funeral Homes & Celebrations Center in Chester Township. Several dozen veterans and families from the surrounding community joined DeJohn Funeral Homes to honor the American Flag and our military veterans.
“Flag Day allows us to honor our flag but also recognize current and retired military men and women for their service to protect our country and our freedoms. We were honored to have dozens of veterans from local VFWs join in our ceremony today,” said Ross DeJohn Jr., Chief Executive Officer and US Army Veteran.
“Additionally, we want to thank Stars for Troops who assists in repurposing embroidered stars to send to military men and women currently serving overseas as well as local veterans and first responders,” he added.
The ceremony included the Color Guard as presented by Chardon VFW #6519 and Gun Salute as presented by Willoughby Hills VFW #4358 and Taps as presented by Burton-Middlefield American Legion VFW #459 & Auxillary, as well as participation from Munson Boy Scout Troop #91 and local Girl Scout Troops.
Immediately following the Flag Retirement & Remembrance Ceremony local Boy Scouts helped serve a picnic lunch to veterans and their families.
Worn American Flags are collected year-long at all of the DeJohn Funeral Homes in Willoughby Hills, Chesterland, Chardon and South Euclid. Collected flags are cremated in the on-site crematory of the DeJohnFlynn-Mylott Funeral Home in Willoughby Hills.
