Lake Erie College is holding open auditions for its chorus.

Community members may arrange to audition this summer for the Lake Erie College Chorus, a component of the college’s expanding music department.

Auditions for the Lake Erie College Chorus are from 7 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 6 and 8 in room 201 of the Morley Music Building. Prospective community singers may schedule a time to audition by contacting Choral Director Mary Crow at mcrow@lec.edu or 440983-0227.

The chorus is looking to expand beyond the 20 singers that have sung for the past several years, Crow said.

Crow has shared her passion for choral singing with a variety of ages, in a variety of settings for the past 30 years. She has served as director of the Lake Erie College Chorus for four years, the release also says.

The chorus’s first rehearsal of the fall semester will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 20. Subsequently, weekly rehearsals will take place on Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Paul S. Weaver Auditorium in the Music Building.

The chorus has brought Lake Erie College students and area residents together for nearly 30 years.

“I love to sing,” said Katrina Brill, who has been a member of the chorus for over two years. “I love creating choral music and Mary Crow is an amazing director. She is ‘strict’ with the sound and actually teaches the group how to sing with more precision and vocal strength. If someone is excited about vocal music and is willing to put in the practice, they will find this group a rewarding musical experience.”

Members practice blend, balance, intonation and musical phrasing in the art of traditional choral singing. There are two performances a year — the traditional Christmas Vespers and at the Spring Musical Arts Concert on campus.

“I hope to encourage the members of the chorus to become choral artists,” Crow said. “The singers in the group have worked really hard to do more than just sing notes. It really is special to work with others to create beautiful choral art. My hope for this year is that the chorus continues to move from just singing notes to creating something artistic. I would love to have more singers join us on this artistic journey.”
