BUSINESS EXPANDS
Trucking firm purchases adjacent property
A Euclid trucking business has expanded its operation of service with a recent purchase of an adjacent property from the city.
The owners of Dellriver Services, Cleveland residents John and Kathy Broadway, officially acquired the property, at 19770 St. Clair Ave., located in the industrial district on the Cleveland-Euclid border, on July 30.
Euclid attained the property in 2017 at no cost through the tax foreclosure process. A public request for proposal was then issued.
A former automotive and towing business which sat vacant for about five years following the death of the previous owner, the city sold the building to the Broadways for $50,001. The closing of the sale was handled by Cleveland-based Harvard Title Agency.
The new owners said they also plan to demolish a defunct detail shop at the front of the property.
“We’re also going to take the fence between the properties down and use the new building for the repair and maintenance of the trucks,” Kathy said. “It’s been a process, about three years, but we were waiting for the city to put bids out. John’s been driv- ing trucks all his life and we’re very excited. It makes sense. I’m
excited to get my office in there.”
Dellriver Services, located in Euclid’s Ward 2, has been operating for eight years and transports a variety of materials from paper and plastics to small machinery. The couple also owns two other parcels on the lot, bearing southeast to East 200th Street, and plan to build a home on the land, Kathy said.
“Also, with the new space, we aim to attract additional drivers, whom we broker out to,” she added.
With an abandoned building back in productive use, the project also raises needed funds for the city, noted Jonathan Holody, Euclid’s director of planning and development, who expressed gratitude to the Broadways and other organizations, including the Cuyahoga Land Bank and the Mannik Smith Group, which provided the Phase I and II environmental assessments to support the sale.
After congratulating
the Broadways, Euclid Mayor Kirsten Holzheimer Gail said the location of the couple’s existing business was a key element in the bidding process.
“We appreciate the opportunity
to consolidate the parcels and help you, a local business couple, expand your business,” the mayor said. “As I say, it always takes a team, and we’re thrilled to be here with you. I think
this a great step forward in revitalizing our community and we’re excited to have you join us. Thank you for your involvement and investment, and we look forward to continued partnership.”
