Humane Society’s Dog-Friendly run scheduled Aug. 5
The Geauga Humane Society’s Rescue Village is planning its third-annual, dogfriendly Wet Nose 5K run Aug. 5 at Orchard Hills Park in Chester Township.
Proceeds will benefit Rescue Village’s shelter operations and the run will feature a special memorial to a young volunteer who died recently, according to a news release from the shelter.
“Abby Bendis regularly volunteered at Rescue Village by being a counselor at children’s summer camps as well as in our cat department,” the release stated. “Rescue Village will be selling special lime green ribbons (her favorite color) before the race for $1 and at a designated mile marker.”
The release states volunteers will blow bubbles in Bendis’ honor for every runner who is wearing a ribbon.
“The proceeds from the lime green ribbons will be donated to Rescue Village specifically in Abby’s name,” the release states.
The run will kick off at 8 a.m. on Aug. 5 and all proceeds raised will benefit the homeless animals of Rescue Village. Pre-registration pricing for the run is $20 and day of registration will be $25.
Runners may still register online at https://www.greaterclevelandxc.com/wetnose or on the day of the race in person beginning at 7 a.m.
“There is already a major increase in registered runners this year than there was last year and Rescue Village expects there to be several walk ups on (Aug. 5) as well,” the release stated.
Sponsors and co-organizers include Second Sole in Mentor, Greater Cleveland XC and Village Veterinary Clinic.
