Lindsey Stirling, a young violinist who blends styles, on way

A second-place finisher on ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ violinist has made her real shine blending the words of pop, classical

Aside from the occasional rock band-orchestral album, it’s a rare feat to see a modern artist’s release appear simultaneously on both a pop and classical music charts. ¶ Welcome to the world of violinist Lindsey Stirling, who ever since her 2012 self-titled debut topped both the dance/electronic and classical music charts and has continuously pushed the envelope with her groundbreaking vision of cinematic and string-driven electronic music. ¶ In a nutshell, the fiercely independent artist epitomizes the current YouTube generation of stars — artists who not only started without parameters, but continue to exist in their own musical universe.

“One of my favorite things about what I do is that it’s kind of an open book,” said Stirling, calling from Montreal. “I can go wherever I want. I feel like it’s because when I started my YouTube channel and started writing music, I did everything from classical covers of video game songs to dubstep and acoustic covers.

“I did all sorts of different things, and it allowed for my fans to kind of expect that from me. It’s like they don’t know what’s coming next.”

What is coming next is the follow-up to her 2016 third studio album, “Brave Enough,” which debuted at No. 5 on Billboard’s Top 200. However, before she starts writing later this year, Stirling is finishing up a summer tour.

She returns to Cleveland for a show Aug. 4 at Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica. Actually, the artist is spending the summer touring with Evanescence. But while Amy Lee and company take two weeks off, Stirling wanted to stay on the road, so he’s doing a handful of one-off headlining concerts. That’s good news for her Northeast Ohio fans.

“I think a lot of people will be really excited about the songs we’re adding,” Stirling said. “I’m putting in a video game medley, which is something people will enjoy. Also, I always loved throwing in a small acoustic number where the violin shines in a different way than it does in the very heavy, electronic full music.

“We’re going to be doing a little more variety in the show when we have a little bit more time. I’m excited about that.”

I feel like it made me a better dancer, and I now know how to control my body and my balance and my core better. It was really so much fun.” — Lindsey Stirling, on competing on “Dancing With the Stars”

During the conversation with Stirling, it’s apparent she’s constantly seeking new ways to not only push her music forward but also challenge herself personally. That was the case last year when she crossed off a bucket-list item and appeared on Season 25 of ABC’s hit show “Dancing With the Stars.” She and partner Mark Ballas finished in second place.

“‘Dancing with the Stars’ gave me permission to take three months of my life and invest it in something I’ve always wanted to learn,” Stirling said. “I initially taught myself to dance, so I never received any formal training. To do it six hours a day with a coach for three months, it kind of changed the game for me.

“I feel like it made me a better dancer, and I now know how to control my body and my balance and my core better. It was really so much fun.”

Considering Stirling also appeared on “America’s Got Talent,” what talent show is next?

“For sure, ‘The Bachelorette,’” Stirling laughed. “I’m just kidding. I probably won’t be doing any more reality TV.”

After a beat, she added, “At least for a while.”
