Sheriff’s Office appoints Executive Lieutenant for road patrol, court services

- Staff report

Following the retirement of Lake County Sheriff’s Capt. Carl Dondorfer, Lt. Jeffrey Sherwood has been appointed Executive Lieutenant in charge of the road patrol and court services divisions.

Sherwood takes over the position with 22 years of experience in law enforcement. According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Sherwood is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He also is a graduate of the Police Executive Leadership College and the WMD Incident Command School.

He has served as a patrol deputy, sergeant, lieutenant, detective, SWAT team member, Marine Patrol member, shift commander and court services commander. Sherwood also currently serves as the SWAT Team commander.

Dondorfer retired in July from the Sheriff’s Office after 25 years. He served as the captain in charge of the road patrol and court services division since 2013. He served on the SWAT team for more than 20 years and retired as SWAT team commander.

“Certainly (Dondorfer) has far too many accomplishments to note in such a short posting but suffice it to say he has been an outstanding member of our Sheriff’s Office,” the Sheriff’s Office stated in a Facebook post. “He has always been innovative, an exceptional leader, a tremendous role model, and a good friend.”

Dondorfer is now a Lake Metroparks Ranger.
