Festival to feature traditional music
Traditional music — bluegrass, old-time, blues, folk, polka, New Orleans Jazz and more — will be the centerpiece of a daylong festival on Aug. 18 in Burton Village.
The Raccoon County Music Festival, which runs from noon to 7 p.m. in downtown Burton, will feature performances on two stages, square dancing, spontaneous jamming, and more, according to a news release.
There will be food for sale at the festival, but event-goers are also permitted to bring their own meals and encouraged to bring chairs and blankets.
Admission is $10 for those ages 13 and older; $5 for children ages 6-12; and free for children under 6.
The festival will be held at the Geauga County Historical Society’s Century Village Museum, 14653 East Park St., and the Historical village buildings and the Crossroads museum store will be open.

Project Hope sets open house
Project Hope for the Homeless is hosting a public open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 11 at the shelter located at 25 Freedom Road, Painesville Township.
Visitors may enjoy a tour of the facility and light refreshments. Freedom Road is located at the intersection of Lexington Avenue and Newell Street, which has construction north of Freedom Road, but remains open from Mentor Avenue north to Freedom Road.
Show to feature railroad memorabilia
The third annual Railroad Memorabilia Show is coming Aug. 26 to the Painesville Railroad Museum, 475 Railroad St.
Taking place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the memorabilia show is designed to have collectors show off their private collections of railroad-related items.
These could be from railroad signals, plate setting ware that was used in the dining cars, railroad lanterns, paper work from different railroads, conductor hats, engineer hats, etc. Some items will be for display only by private collectors and some items will be available for purchase, according to a news release.
This show also will provide the history of the Painesville depot from 1851 to present and how the railroads have influenced the city of Painesville and the nation, the release stated.
Admission is $5 per adult, $3 per child ages 3 to 12, and $12 per family of two adults and three children maximum.
‘Jog with a Frog’ set for Aug. 25
Project Hope for the Homeless announce the “Aqua Doc presents Jog with a Frog 5K and a 1 Mile Walk in the Park” community event will be held at 8 a.m., Aug. 25, at Kiwanis Recreation Park in Painesville.
The community event will feature a post-race cook-out, live music, Bubbles n Swirls face painting, glitter tattoos, and balloon animals, plus a special appearance from a local hero, according to a news release.
Online registration and race chip timing for the 5K will be conducted by Greater Cleveland XC. Sign up at www.greaterclevelandxc.com/frog. The 1-mile walk will be an untimed event.
Cost for the 5K is $25 through Aug. 24 and $30 on race day. The price for the 1-mile walk is $15 through Aug. 24 and $20 on race day. In-person registration begins at 7 a.m. Aug. 25 with runners and walkers toeing the line at 8 a.m. at Kiwanis Recreation Park, 301 Latimore St.
The top three male and top three female finishers in the 5K will receive overall awards. Age group awards also will be given.
