Fairmount Center for the Arts announces scholarship
The Fairmount Center for the Arts has recently announced the establishment of the Nancy Furst Figgie Scholarship for Visual Arts.
The scholarship honors Nancy Furst Figgie who died Dec. 20, 2016.
Figgie was an accomplished artist, creating vivid artwork in a multitude of genres — watercolors, oils, acrylics and chalks, according to a Fairmount Center for the Arts news release. She took classes, including at the center, where she designed pieces right up to the time of her death. The scholarship was founded at the Fairmount Center for the Arts spring dance performance event and will support students in enrolling in visual arts classes in a variety of mediums, including painting, drawing and multimedia.
“My mother was a humanitarian, trailblazer and visionary,” said Matthew P. Figgie, chairman of Fairmount Center for the Arts.
“This scholarship commemorates her intense love for the arts and her ardent belief of the impact that creativity, expression, vision and discipline has on each and every person who pursues artistic endeavors.”
Scholarship applications are now being accepted for fall 2018. The deadline to apply is Aug. 17.
Additional scholarships, based on fund balance, will be awarded for fall, spring and summer sessions beginning in fall 2018, the school confirmed in the release.
