Program to teach youths chalk art

-

Youths – from scribblers to pavement Picassos – can let their chalk do the talking during the Chalk Art program at 2 p.m., Aug. 25, at Mentor Public Library’s Headlands Branch, 4669 Corduroy Road in Mentor.

First, children will learn about famous chalk artist Julian Beever. Then, they’ll draw their own chalk masterpieces on the sidewalk outside and even on the building of the Headlands Branch, according to a news release.

They don’t need any artistic experience to participate, and the library will provide the chalk.

The library does ask that people register beforehand. They can sign up online at www.mentorpl.org or call the Headlands Branch at 440-257-2000.

Music program coming for caregivers

• Tuesdays from 10 to 11 a.m., Sept. 4 through Oct. 9 at Mentor Senior Center, 8484 Munson Road. Call 440-974-5725 to register.

Music is an effective way to activate memories, increase communication, and provide social experiences for persons living with memory loss, according to a news release. The goal of this program is to research how a new group music program for persons living with dementia can help increase socialization and connection with the community.
