Lupus Foundation sets teleconference
The Lupus Foundation of America, Greater Ohio Chapter will be holding the T.T.Y.L. from 2 to 3 p.m., Sept. 15.
Registration for this event is required at least 24 hours in advance. Call 888-NO-LUPUS or visit LupusGreaterOhio.org to register.
This is a call-in teleconference for adolescents ages 8-18 who are affected by lupus. The support group is a closed, small-group environment that encourages discussion among adolescents, according to a news release. It is a place where persons with lupus can share their experiences and ask questions.
Most discussions focus on the “how-to’s” of living with a chronic illness. It is a safe place for people to learn, share and help.
Pop-up market coming to Fairport
Fairport Harbor’s first Harbor Pop Up Market will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sept. 22, at Memorial Park, 301 Third St.
Wares from local artisans, collectors and craftsmen will be available for purchase. Food trucks and a wine tent also will be on hand while music will be provided by the Woodpeckers Band.
‘Wine for Whines’ to aid dog shelter
Cold Nose Companions Dog Training is hosting “Wine for Whines: A Paint Your Pet Fundraiser,” benefitting the Geauga County Dog Shelter.
Pet lovers can enjoy an evening creating their very own painting of their pet, while raising money for the shelter, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sept. 21 at Cold Nose Companions Dog Training Center in Chardon.
The $80 registration includes a 12-by-12-inch canvas pre-sketched with the pet’s photo, quality art instruction from Mary Ann Hagen, a buffet and wine from Sharon James Cellars, according to a news release.

Geauga Faith Rescue Mission will be holding its third annual Dinner and Auction to benefit Geauga County’s homeless on Oct. 6.
The event will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at Notre Dame Educational Center, 13000 Auburn Road in Chardon, and will include hors d’oeuvres, beef tenderloin and Haddock dinner, beer, live music, and silent and Chinese auctions.

Geauga Faith Rescue Mission has received calls to help over 80 residents since it was founded four years ago, according to a news release. It currently has no facility to offer but has provided temporary shelter and basic necessities when able and in many cases have to refer those in need to Lake or other county shelters where there are up to twoto three-month wait periods.
The organization is actively seeking a rental property to be used for emergency shelter but also to provide long-term, faithbased support, education and support services for a return to self-sufficient living, the release stated.
History Center hosts ‘Ohio Open Doors’
Lake County Commissioner Dan Troy will join The Lake County History Center for “Ohio Open Doors” at 2 p.m., Sept. 14.
Troy will be discussing why it is important to preserve Lake County History through its historic places, according to a news release. Attendees are invited to stay after the meeting for a behind-the-scenes tour of the notorious jail cells and behind the scenes of the collections.
This is a free event and open to the public.
