The Democratic challenger for the U.S. House of Representatives 14th District seat is hosting a health care town hall Sept. 10 in Kirtland.
The event, dubbed a “town hall and listening session” begins at 7 p.m. in the Kirtland Senior Center, 7900 Euclid Chardon Road.
At the event, congressional hopeful Betsy Rader, D-Russell Township, will “share her top priorities for making healthcare and prescription drugs more affordable” and hear from voters in the district, according to a news release from her campaign.
Rader is challenging incumbent Rep. Dave Joyce, R-Bainbridge Township, for his seat in the Nov. 6 general election.
Rader told The NewsHerald that rallying in support of the Affordable Care Act outside of Joyce’s thendistrict office in Painesville is the moment she seriously considered running for congress.
“I had worked Cleveland Clinic and in Medicare and Medicaid, I had done the Woman’s March, and a lot of people were feeling like what they had to say didn’t matter and nobody was listening,” Rader said.
She announced her candidacy in April 2017. Joyce is currently serving in his third term as the 14th District representative. He was first elected in 2012. He was appointed as the Republican Party candidate following incumbent Rep. Steven LaTourette’s retirement announcement that summer.
