Taste wines, foods from Spain and Portugal in Mentor
Tastes of Spain and Portugal will be the focus from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 14 at Heinen’s in Mentor, where food and eight wine from the Iberian Peninsula countries will be paired.
Cheese and food experts, along with staff from the store’s wine department, will be on hand to answer questions.

Deadlines soon for beer, clams
Deadlines are approaching quickly for events in fabulous early fall settings nearby.
Reservations are needed by Sept. 13 for the Nature’s Brew Beer Tasting set for6to9 p.m. Sept. 15 in the gardens at Holden Arboretum, 9550 Sperry Road, Kirtland.
Beautiful late-summer blooms will be the backdrop for great beer and a live band. The event will take place beneath a tent near the Visitors’ Center with complimentary hot pretzels and root beer floats. Food from Nick’s Gyros and Smokin’ Rock n Roll will be available from cash concessions.
Tickets are $60 for nonmembers and $50 for members. A six-pack of tickets costs $250.

Sept. 14 is the reservation deadline for a clambake set for 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 19 at Mentor Beach Park, 7779 Lake Shore Blvd., Mentor-on-theLake. Hosted by the Mentor Area Chamber of Commerce and Griffin Technology Group, its proceeds will help raise money for scholarships.
The $40-per-person ticket price includes Manhattan clam chowder, half chicken, 12 top neck clams, sweet potato, sweet corn, coleslaw rolls, one adult beverage and soft drinks. Additional clam can be purchased for $10 per dozen. Music, raffles and 50-50 drawings will round out the evening.

Women’s historic influence
Meet some remarkable ladies of Lake County and learn about their historic influence from pioneer days to the 1950s at an installment of the Ladies Who Lunch series presented from noon to 2 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Lake County History Center, 3415 Riverside Drive in Painesville Township.
Lunch is included along with the program. Cost is $18 for non-members of the Lake County History Center and $15 for members.

Tastes of Scotland
Discover the tastes of Scotland with a Scotch whisky tasting from 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 20 at Skye Bistro, 8434 Mentor Ave., Mentor.
Samples from five of the country’s whisky-producing regions will be offered, along with Scottish hors d’oeuvres for $45 per person. It’s a presentation by the Scottish Heritage Association of Northeast Ohio.
