Cicconetti hands out creative sentence

Painesville Municipal Court Judge Michael Cicconetti was almost impressed by the amount of work that went into the crime.

Cody Scott, 19, of Fairport Harbor admitted that in June he and his friends mowed obscenities on the grounds of Fairport Harding High School.

“Why in the world did you do that?” Cicconetti asked Scott on Sept. 18 in Painesville Municipal Court.

Scott admitted that he was being childish. Fairport Harbor police said that he was the one of the co-defendants who showed remorse for the crime and asked to make it right.

Cicconetti gave Scott the option of either serving 10 days in jail or completing one of the

creative sentences the judge is known for.

Scott, who was charged with trespassing and criminal mischief misdemeanors, chose the creative sentencing.

For his punishment, Scott will mow the Fairport Harding High School football team’s practice field. The catch is it’s a manual lawn mower.

Other conditions of the sentencing are Scott is not permitted to enter high school property (other than to mow the field), stay away from his co-defendants,

maintain employment and continue working toward his GED.

He will be on probation for six months.

“The only reason I’m doing this, Cody, is because you’re showing some remorse and respect,” Cicconetti said.

“Otherwise you’d be doing 10 days in jail for sure.”
