Fisher award watch list reaches Week 5

John Kampf returns with an update on candidates on the watch list for the Tony Fisher award, given each fall to The News-Herald’s high school football player of the year. See how players fared in Week 5.

This year’s Tony Fisher Award will be handed out Nov. 26, as part of a special edition of the Varsity Chalk Talk Show at Hooley House in Mentor, with Bill Tilton hosting. We will publish a weekly watch list for the top players in the area every week from now until the night of the show. This list is fluid and can change week to week. This week’s list, in alphabetic­al order: • Jacob Allen, Perry, Sr.:

Ran for two touchdowns, and also caught a touchdown pass in the Pirates’ 55-21 win over Beachwood. For the season, he has run for 175 yards, caught 17 passes for 310 yards and has scored seven touchdowns. • C.J. Charleston, Gilmour, Sr.:

Ran for 250 yards and five touchdowns in the Lancers’ 35-12 win over Lutheran East. For the season, he has run for 1,077 yards and 22 touchdowns. • Nick Demchuk, Benedictin­e, Sr.:

Completed 20 of 34 passes for 175 yards and a touchdown in the Bengals’ 17-14 win over Columbus Watterson. For the season, he has thrown for 1,395 yards and 16 touchdowns. • Nick Gattozzi, NDCL, Sr.: Completed 8 of 22 passes for 143 yards in the Lions’ 35-0 win over Bedford. For the season, He has run for 326 yards and two touchdowns and has thrown for 748 yards and eight touchdowns. • Ian Kipp, Mentor, So.: Completed 12 of 20 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for 23 yards and a touchdown, in the Cardinals’ 35-0 win over Brunswick. For the season, he has thrown for 671 yards and eight touchdowns, and has run for 332 yards and seven touchdowns. • Jake Neibecker, Kirtland, Sr.:

Carried three times for 30 yards in the Hornets’ shortened 13-0 win over Richmond Heights. For the season, he has run for 417 yards with eight touchdowns. • Isaac Pettway, Wickliffe, Sr.: Carried 19 times for 169 yards and three touchdowns in the Blue Devils’ 34-14 win over Cardinal. For the season, he has run for 651 yards and has scored 12 touchdowns. • Jack Porter, Kenston, Jr.:

Carried 25 times for 157 yards and three touchdowns in the Bombers’ 51-28 win over Brush. For the season, he has run for 630 yards and has scored 11 touchdowns. • Drew Schiano, Perry, So.: Completed 10 of 11 passes for 155 yards and three touchdowns in the Pirates’ 55-21 win over Beachwood. For the season, he has thrown for 1,202 yards and 13 touchdowns. • Jon Tomcufcik, Kenston, Jr.: Completed 11 of 15 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns in the Bombers’ 51-28 win over Brush. For the season, he has thrown for 1,064 yards and nine touchdowns, while also running for five scores. • Joey Torok, Kirtland, Sr.:

Carried two times for 13 yards, and also caught a 43-yard touchdown pass in the Hornets’ shortened 13-0 win over Richmond Heights. For the season, he has run for 432 yards and has scored nine touchdowns. • Brian Trobel, Mentor, Jr.: Carried 11 times for 87 yards and two touchdowns in the Cardinals’ 35-0 win over Brunswick. For the season, he has run for 708 yards and has scored 12 touchdowns and caught seven passes for 81 yards.
