The Geauga County Historical Society announced that its newest building and historical display, The Maple Museum of Geauga County, is open for tours.

The Maple Museum will be open as follows:

1. Visitors may select the Maple Museum as one of the tour-stops during the free Saturday public tours conducted each Saturday during the warmer-weather season, at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. These tours will take place through mid-October 2018. The public is served on a first-come, firstserved basis, as space permits.

2. Visitors may schedule a tour of the Maple Museum on other days and at other times by calling at least 24 hours (and preferably 48 hours) in advance and making a reservation. A charge of $5 per person will be apply to reserved tours of the Maple Museum alone or $8 per adult/$5 per child for a general tour that includes the Maple Museum. This offer also applies to group tours.

3. Visitors may view the Maple Museum during major events held at Century Village Museum if the Maple Museum has been chosen as one of the open historic buildings at that event. No charge above the charge of event admission.

The Maple Museum includes artifacts and early accounts of maple sugaring beginning with the native Americans and continuing through to the modern day, with explanations of the tapping, collecting, and boiling processes. You will learn about the old-fashioned sugaring parties, the success of Ohio maple producers at the 1893 World’s Fair, the Geauga County Maple Festival, the families of the county who have produced the product for generations, as well as the identities of the today’s leading maple syrup makers, the businesses and industries that have supported maple syrup production, and profiles of the Ohio Maple Hall of Fame members. A variety of art depicting the lore and intrigue of maple sugaring is displayed. There are a number of children’s activities, from reading, to hands-on projects, to search-and-find challenges. Families with youngsters are encouraged to visit.

Maple syrup, in various quantities, is offered for sale at the museum’s store. This maple syrup is produced from sap collected from the Society’s sugarbush and boiled in its own sugarhouse. The sugarhouse is also available for viewing.
