Police are investigating a social media post Sept. 27 that made a threat toward Lorain City Schools.

According to a news release from the district, schools officials and the Lorain Police Department are aware of the post made to Snapchat and are monitoring the situation.

The post made was vague and did not mention any particular school, but did state the individual who made the threat planned to disrupt class Sept. 28, the release said.

The district said it is taking this matter seriously and is being diligent in its investigation.

Lorain Schools and Lorain police are taking necessary measures to assure the safety of scholars and staff at each of the 14 buildings, according to the release.

More information will be forthcoming as it becomes available, the release said.

Elyria threats lead to arrest

A Lorain man was charged in a Sept. 14 threat against Elyria High School because he was angry with his girlfriend, who was a student there, according to a news release from the Elyria Police Department.

On Sept. 27, the U.S. Marshal’s Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Javiaan Davis on three outstanding felony warrants issued by Elyria police, the release said.

Davis, 18, of Lorain is charged with felony counts of inducing panic, making terroristic threats and making false alarms against Elyria City Schools.

Task Force officers located Davis on the second-floor of a duplex in the 1800 block of East 34th Street and arrested him, according to the release.

Police said Davis attempted to evade officers by crawling through a small hole in the attic into another vacant apartment, the release said.

Officers found Davis hiding in a cabinet underneath the sink, arrested him and transported to the Elyria Police Department.

The charges resulted from the incident when Elyria police responded to the Elyria City Schools Administration Building, 42101 Griswold, following a telephone threat that was reported to the switchboard operator, the release said.

During the initial investigation, Superintendent Thomas Jama told police the district had received three threatening phone calls indicating a subject intended to cause harm at Elyria High, the release said.

Based on the investigation, police believed the same subject made each of the three phone calls, according to the release.
