Geneva’s boys and girls cross country teams each left Middlefiel­d as champions Oct. 13. Forrest Long (16:53) won the Chagrin Valley Conference’s Chagrin division boys race to lead the Eagles’ boys to a team title with 24 points. Teammate Jacob Mirabell (16:55) was the runner-up, followed by Harvey’s JT Basco (17:01) in third. Elizabeth Joy (20:22) finished second in the girls race as Geneva’s girls team edged Chagrin Falls, 4548, for first place. Catherine Coffey (19:56) won the CVC Chagrin girls race for the Tigers. Hawken’s girls team scored 30 points to win the CVC Valley championsh­ip. Ella Gilson (18:20) won the race, Juliana Metz (19:11) was the runner-up and Julia Newman (20:05) placed third to lead the Hawks’ dominant effort. Josiah Cheung (18:06) finished second and Sam Adams (18:14) placed fourth to land Berkshire the CVC Valley boys team championsh­ip. The Badgers won with 33 points ahead of Beachwood’s 43. • Mentor’s Nick Kozlowski (16:42) led area runners at the Greater Cleveland Conference meet in third place. The Cardinals placed third with 72 points. Solon’s Logan Esper (16:33) won the boys race. The Comets won the boys championsh­ip with 49 points. Anna Evans (20:17) led the Cardinals in eighth in the girls race. Mentor placed fifth with 93 points. Medina won the girls team title with 37 points. Brunswick’s Emily Bardwell (18:35) placed first. • Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin’s boys team and Beaumont’s girls team finished as narrow runners-up at the North Coast League meet. NDCL’s 71 points were bested by Akron Hoban’s 68. Augie King (17:16) led the Lions’ pack in seventh. Gilmour placed fourth with 92 points. Tim Diemer (17:08) finished fourth. Lake Catholic was fifth with 115 points, led by Alex Hansel (17:15) in sixth. Walsh Jesuit’s Nathaniel Ondracek (16:32) won the boys race. St. Joseph Academy won the girls team title with 69 points. Annie Allen (19:17) notched a first-place result for the Jaguars. Beaumont’s Mia Mlynek (19:47) and Addison Ciecierski (19:52) led the Blue Streaks in second and third, respective­ly. Beaumont tallied 77 points. Gilmour placed fifth with 95 points. Katie Engle (20:10) led the Lancers in sixth.
