Anna Dey hit a wall in her bodybuilding days.

She was hungry for new ways to change up her lean meat and veggie diet, and learned of meal plans offered by Clean Eatz in Canton. She and husband, Mike, became big fans of the eatery, and begged the owner to open a store closer to home in Painesville.

When the owner told them it was too far, the Deys decided to open one themselves. Their Mentor location debuts to the public Oct. 18 in the former Ruko’s spot in Heisley Pointe Plaza, 9385 Mentor Ave. The motto is “It’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle.”

“Clean Eatz is about offering healthy options that are applicable to your average person,” said Anna, who also co-owns and operates Anytime Fitness in Concord Township with her dad.

The Wilmington, North Carolina-based restaurant chain also is opening in Cuyahoga Falls and Columbus this week.

“Clean Eatz is not only a dine-in cafe where patrons can order a variety of healthy meals like wraps, flatbreads, bowls, salads and smoothies, but we also offer a full mealprep service,” Anna said. “Each week, Clean Eatz Mentor will come out with a rotating menu of delicious healthy meals that patrons can order online and pick up precooked in store to set them up for a successful week.”

The meal plans, posted online each Thursday and available for pickup Sundays, include no-carb, lowcarb, extra protein, glutenfree and customizable options. Prices range from $38 for five meals to $128 for 21 dishes.

The menu has a wide variety of items, such as bison, described as a healthier option for “red meat eaters;” a few choices over 500 calories for “big boys;” and even “appropriately portion-sized” organic coconut oil-based fudge.

The store will staff about 13 employees. Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Breakfast options will be available as part of meal plan pickups.

The first meal plan will be available for ordering on Oct. 25 with pickup Oct. 28.
