Da’Mari Scott to the rescue!

The Browns might not be done making roster moves this week, but Oct. 16 they plugged a hole at wide receiver by elevating undrafted rookie Da’Mari Scott from the practice squad. At the same time, they put wide receiver/ special teams player Rod Streater on injured reserve with a neck injury.

The receiving corps now consists of fifth-year veteran Jarvis Landry, rookies Antonio Callaway, Damion Ratley and Scott, plus Breshad Perriman, a 2015 first-round pick by the Ravens who caught a total of 43 passes in 2016 and 2017. Perriman, out of work since being cut by the Ravens on Sept. 1, missed his rookie year with a knee injury.

The smoothest transition for the Browns before playing the Buccaneers in Tampa on Oct. 21 could be playing running back Duke Johnson as a slot receiver more often. Johnson, in his fourth season, led the Browns with 74 catches last season.

The Browns also waived injured linebacker James Burgess (hamstring) and replaced him with Xavier Woodson-Luster from the practice squad.

Scott — 6-foot, 205 pounds from Fresno State — caught eight passes for 86 yards with the Browns in the preseason.

Woodson-Luster made the Raiders’ roster as an undrafted rookie in 2017. He played in 14 games last season and made seven tackles on defense and four on special teams. He was in the Bills’ 2018 training camp and signed to the Browns’ practice squad last week.
