Police: Victim of alleged child enticement recants statement
Willoughby Hills police are reporting the victim of an alleged child enticement incident has recanted her statement.
Police on Oct. 17 sent out a news release to media seeking more information about an alleged incident that occurred a day prior.
According to police, a stranger allegedly approached a female Cornerstone Christian Academy students at dismissal time in the parking lot area of the school.
The girl said the female suspect attempted to lure her into a vehicle.
Officers met with several people who said they witnessed the incident. They described the suspect as a light-skinned black female, approximately 25 to 30 years old with her hair in a ponytail and two braids in the front. They said the suspect had a birthmark between her lip and nose on the left side, long eyelashes, full brows, short red fingernails and was wearing bright red lipstick.

Great Lakes Mall to host Halloween events
Great Lakes Mall will present the KidX Boo Bash from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Oct. 20, located near BuildA-Bear.
The event will feature face painting, Halloween themed crafts, giveaways, entertainment and a costume contest.
Families with young children also are invited to participate in a mallwide Trickor-Treat from 6 to 8 p.m., Oct. 24. This year’s event will kick off near Shelby’s Sugar Shop, and kids will receive a special Shelby’s bag while supplies last.

On Oct. 18, Willoughby Hills detectives learned during the course of their investigation that the claims made by the alleged victim were false.
The victim recanted her original statement to detectives.

Book sale coming to Euclid library
The Friends of the Euclid Public Library will be holding their Fall Book Sale Oct. 26-28.
The members preview sale will be Oct. 26th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Non-members may join at the door for safety concerns related to this matter, and that there is no known threat to the general public,” Sgt. Matthew Naegele wrote in a news release.
In the release the department stated public safety is their number one concern and they take all reported cases of this nature very seriously and will investigated any and all reported claims of crimes against children.
The detective bureau is continuing to investigate circumstances surrounding the incident. $5.
On Oct. 27, the sale will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 28 will be Bag Day from 1 to 4 p.m. Buy a bag from the Friends for $3 and fill it with material. Only Friends-issued bags are allowed in the sale rooms.

Maple Seminar coming to Huntsburg
The second annual Maple Seminar & Trade Show is set to take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 27, at the Huntsburg Community Center, 12396 Madison Road.
State Reps. John Patterson and Sarah LaTourette will give updates on H.B. 606 and others, while Dan Milo, the food safety director for Ohio Department of Agriculture, will give an update on the new FDA regulations.
Also Paul Mechling of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources will speak on woodland management. Bill Hahn, city arborist and horticulturist for Akron Engineering, will speak on tree selection and invasive species.
In addition to other presenters, attendees can talk with maple equipment dealers displaying their equipment.
