Stella’s Art Gallery filled with ‘Oddball Art’ for October

-

Who’s your favorite artist? Mine changes frequently, just like my favorite flowers change according to what’s in bloom.

Currently, my favorite artist is Mother Nature. I just love the way she paints the trees, all decked out in colorful dresses of yellows and oranges, reds and purples. But as soon as her work is complete — and sometimes before — good ole’ Jack Frost comes by and the branches are suddenly bare.

Ah, well, another autumn in Ohio is squarely upon us. Get out and savor the sunshine and brilliant colors while you can. Capture some stunning images for next year’s photography contests and bring home some apples for a still-life drawing. (Those apples, of course, later will become a pie.)

Stella’s Art Gallery

The October exhibit, “Oddball Art,” is in place at Stella’s Art Gallery, 8500 Station St., Mentor. They frequently post to Facebook and keep info current on stellasartgallery.com.

Congratulations to Gail Steinetz Crum for winning top honors in “Oddball Art” for her assemblage piece, and to second place winner Cat Swartz.

The Matchworks Building, which is celebrating its 150th birthday this year, will be hosting the Monster Match Trick or Treat Bash from noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 27.

The building will be transformed into a family-friendly and safe trickor-treating environment packed with frights, delights and spooky treats on all three levels of the building. Activities will include pumpkin painting, face painting, apple bobbing, familyfriendly movies on a giant projection screen, games, refreshments and more.

Looking ahead, Stella’s will be kicking off the 2019 exhibit season with “Black and White,” featuring artworks done in any medium or size, provided they fit the theme of being done in black, white or something in between.

Artwork is due on Jan. 4. The opening reception will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 11 as part of the part of the monthly Second Friday events.
