Nick Kozlowski leads the defending district champion Mentor Cardinals into the meet Oct. 20. Mentor has raced against a competitive schedule and formed a scoring five that can carry the team to a berth in Hebron . ... Chardon’s Denali Selent, Andi Mann and Bri Nieset are single-digit scorers who make the Hilltoppers a favorite to defend their 2017 district title . ... Diona Ramos, Anna Evans and Maddie Hull have taken turns as Mentor’s No. 1 runner throughout the season. The Cardinals will push Chardon for the district team championship . ... Nicole DiCicco and Val Sague figure to run into November for Mayfield and should be able to lead the Wildcats girls team out to Boardman . ... Elizabeth Joy led a number of solid finishes for Geneva, and the Eagles girls team will contend for a regional qualification . ... Riverside’s A.J. Haffa is in peak form headed into the postseason and is the favorite to win the boys D-I race at Madison. With the return of No. 2 Zeb Zuber last week, the Beavers will push Mentor for the district crown . ... Forrest Long and Jacob Mirabell each notched a handful of top 10 finishes for Geneva’s boys team. They should be able to lead the Eagles to Boardman . ... After Mentor, Riverside and Geneva, competition for the final two boys team qualifications is wide open. Madison’s Owen Hennessey figures to notch at least a top-five finish for the Blue Streaks and Jeremy Verdi’s group is capable of snagging a regional berth . ...
