Mayfield at Riverside

-

Western Reserve Conference game Riverside Stadium 7 p.m., Oct. 26 Riverside 7-2 (5-1 WRC), Mayfield 5-4 (4-2 WRC)

Mayfield def. South, 45-14, Riverside def. Brush, 61-21

No game this week has more riding on it than this one. Riverside already has a Division II playoff berth wrapped up, but can also get a share of the conference title with a win here. Mayfield can get into the Division II playoffs with a victory, which would also take Riverside (likely) out of the conference title race. ... Mayfield’s offense was cranking last week against South. QB Michael Huss is 214 yards shy of the 2,000yard mark. Joey Isabella is one of the team’s gamebreaking receivers, and the fast-paced offense can put up a lot of points. Defensively, keep an eye on Tyler Tiggs and Marco Tramontano . ... Riverside QB Andrew Keller is a fine dual-threat signal-caller. He has thrown for 1,126 yards and run for 570, while accounting for 20 touchdowns. Patrick Gonzales and Danny Smith are both field-stretching receivers that will test Mayfield’s secondary . ... This could be a rock’em, sock’em, high-scoring shootout with the way these two offenses are playing right now.

North at Chardon

Western Reserve Conference game Memorial Stadium 7 p.m., Oct. 26

Chardon 6-3 (5-1 WRC), North 2-7 (1-5 WRC)

Chardon def. Kenston, 27-24, Madison def. North, 35-18

Chardon has one of the most impressive stories of the season. After starting 1-3, the Hilltoppers have won five in a row, and can get a share of the WRC title and a Division III playoff berth with a win over the Rangers . ... The run-oriented Hilltoppers are led by Jon McKnight (904 yards on the ground), Max Vujaklija (524) and Wade Novak (561). Regular starting QB Andrew Kobuszewski is battling a torn knee ligament, but still got some snaps last week against Kenston . ... The defense is fast and aggressive, with John Dinko (10.5 sacks) the leading hitter . ... North has had a lot of injuries this year, but can still put points on the board. RB Brett Payne has run for 597 yards. He’s a tough battering gram. Physical quarterback Dylan Froelich is 230 pounds and can run over defenders as well as running around them. .. The key to this game is run defense, for both teams. North can’t win the league or make it to the playoffs, but the Rangers can certainly decide who does.
